A, B and C together can do a work in 10 days, $B$ alone takes three times as long as $A$ and $C$ together take to do the work. C takes twice as long as A and B together take to do the work. How many days does $B$ take to complete the work alone?

(1) 35 days

(2) 40 days

Let time taken by $A$ and $C$ be $x$ days.

$\therefore \quad$ Time taken by $B=3 x$ days

$\therefore \quad(A+B+C)$ ’s 1 day’s work $=\frac{1}{x}+\frac{1}{3 x}=\frac{1}{10}$

$\Rightarrow \frac{3+1}{3 x}=\frac{1}{10}$

$\Rightarrow 3 x=40=$ Time taken by B.

$\therefore$ Required answer $=40$ days.
