The ratio between the adjacent angles of a parallelogram is $7: 8$ respectively. Also the ratio between the angles of quadrilateral is $5: 6: 7: 12$. What is the sum of the smaller angle of parallelogram and second largest angle of the quadrilateral?

(2) $228^{\circ}$
(3) $156^{\circ}$

Solution: (1)
Let the adjacent angles be $7 x$ and $8 x$.
$\therefore 7 x+8 x=180^{\circ}$
$\Rightarrow 15 x=180^{\circ} $
$\Rightarrow x=12^{\circ}$
$\therefore$ Smaller angle $=7 \times 12=84^{\circ}$
Again,
$5 y+6 y+7 y+12 y=360^{\circ}$
$\Rightarrow 30 y=360^{\circ}$
$\Rightarrow y=\frac{360^{\circ}}{30}=12^{\circ}$
$\therefore$ Second largest angle of the quadrilateral $=7 \times 12^{\circ}=84^{\circ}$
$\therefore$ Required sum $=84^{\circ}+84^{\circ}=168^{\circ}$
