Divide Rs. 740 into three parts such that second part is $\frac{1}{4}$ th of the third part and the ratio between the first and the third part is $3: 5$. Find the difference between the first and the third part.

Let, first part $=$ Rs. $3 x$
Third part $=$ Rs. $5 x$
$\therefore$ Second part $=$ Rs. $\frac{5 x}{4}$
$\therefore 3 x+\frac{5 x}{4}+5 x=740$
$\Rightarrow \frac{12 x+5 x+20 x}{4}=740$
$\Rightarrow 37 x=4 \times 740$
$\Rightarrow x=\frac{4 \times 740}{37}=80$
$\therefore$ Required difference $=$ Rs. $2 x$ $=$ Rs. $(2 \times 80)=$ Rs. 160
