Ratio And Proportion Ques 35

Question-

Sum of present ages of $A$ and $B$ is 87 years. Age of A 2 years hence will be equal to the age of $C$ one year ago and age of $A$ four years hence will be equal to the age of $B$ one year ago. If the ratio of present ages of A and D is $3: 4$, find the difference between present ages of $C$ and $D$.

(1) $\frac{44}{3}$ years

(2) $\frac{41}{3}$ years

(3) $\frac{25}{3}$ years

Correct Answer: (2)

Solution: (2)

According to the question,

$A+B=87$

$C-1=A+2$

$\Rightarrow C=A+3$

and $A+4=B-1$

$\Rightarrow B=A+5$

From equations (i) and (ii)

$A+A+5=87$

$\Rightarrow 2 A=87-5=82$

$\Rightarrow A=41$ years

$\therefore B=41+5=46$ years

$C=41+3=44$ years

$\therefore \frac{A}{D}=\frac{3}{4}$

$\Rightarrow D=\frac{4}{3} \times 41$ $=\frac{164}{3}$ years

$\therefore$ Required difference $=\frac{164}{3}-41$ $=\frac{164-123}{3}$ $=\frac{41}{3}$ years
