Question-

The respective ratio between $55 \%$ of $x$ and $88 \%$ of $y$ is $1: 2$. If the difference between $x$ and $y$ be 10 what is the value of $(3 x+y)$ ?

(1) 120

(2) 150

According to the question,

$ \therefore \frac{55 x}{100}: \frac{88 y}{100}=1: 2 $

$ \Rightarrow 5 x: 8 y=1: 2$

$ \Rightarrow \frac{5 x}{8 y}=\frac{1}{2} $

$\Rightarrow \frac{x}{y}=\frac{8}{5} \times \frac{1}{2}=\frac{4}{5} $

$\therefore x=4 a ; y=5 a $

$\therefore 5 a-4 a=10 $

$\Rightarrow a=10 $

$ \therefore x=40 \text { and } y=50 $

$\therefore 3 x+y=3 \times 40+50=170$
