Correct Answer: (3)
Solution: (3)
Let A’s present age be $x$ years.
$\therefore$ B’s present age $=(x+8)$ years
C’s present age $=(x+16)$ years
After 12 years,
$\frac{\text { A’s age }}{\text { C’s age }}=\frac{5}{9}$
$\Rightarrow \frac{x+12}{x+16+12}=\frac{5}{9}$
$\Rightarrow 9 x+108=5 x+140$
$\Rightarrow 9 x-5 x=140-108$
$\Rightarrow 4 x=32$
$\Rightarrow x=\frac{32}{4}=8$
$\therefore$ Sum of the present ages of A, B and C $=x+x+8+x+16$
$=3 x+24=3 \times 8+24$ $=48$ years
