A bag contains 16 eggs out of which 5 are rotten. The remaining eggs are in good condition. If two eggs are drawn randomly, what is the probability that one of the eggs drawn is rotten?

Solution: (1)
Out of 16 eggs, 11 eggs are good and 5 eggs are rotten.
Total possible outcomes $=$ Selection of 2 eggs out of 16 eggs $=$ ${ }^{16} C_{2}$ $=\frac{16 \times 15}{1 \times 2}=120$
Total favourable outcomes $=$ Selection of 1 egg out of 11 good eggs and selection of 1 egg out of 5 rotten eggs $=11 \times 5=55$
Required probability $=\frac{55}{120}=\frac{11}{24}$
