- There are 52 beggars outside the temple. 312 apples are distributed among them so that each man gets 9 apples and each woman gets 5 apples. Find the respective number of men and women outside the temple.

Correct Answer: 80. (1)
Solution: 80. (1) Male beggars $=x$ (let)
$\therefore$ Females $=52-x$
According to the question,
$9 x+(52-x) 5=312$
$\Rightarrow 9 x+260-5 x=312$
$\Rightarrow 4 x=312-260=52$
$\Rightarrow x=\frac{52}{4}=13$
$\therefore$ Females $=52-13=39$
