Miscellaneous Question 70
In each question, there are two different statements given as Quantity I and Quantity II. You have to consider the statements individually and mark your answer accordingly as per the given condition.
(1) Quantity I > Quantity II
(2) Quantity I $<$ Quantity II
(3) Quantity I $\geq$ Quantity II
(4) Quantity I $\leq$ Quantity II
(5) Quantity I = Quantity II or relationship cannot be determined
- Quantity I : Present age of Father. Father’s age is 4 times that of his son. 5 years back, it was 7 times.
Quantity II : Present age of man. Fifteen years hence, a man will be four times as old as he was fifteen years ago.
Show Answer
Correct Answer: 70. (1)
Solution: 70. (1) Quantity - I :
Son’s present age $=x$ years
$\therefore$ Father’s present age $=4 x$ years
5 years ago,
$4 x-5=7(x-5)$
$\Rightarrow 4 x-5=7 x-35$
$\Rightarrow 7 x-4 x=35-5$
$\Rightarrow 3 x=30 \Rightarrow x=10$
$\therefore$ Father’s present age $=40$ years
Quantity - II
Person’s present age
$=x$ years
$\therefore x+15=4(x-15)$
$\Rightarrow x+15=4 x-60$
$\Rightarrow 4 x-x=15+60$
$\Rightarrow 3 x=75 \Rightarrow x=25$ years
Clearly, quantity I $>$ quantity II.
