Miscellaneous Question 58

In the given questions, two quantities are given. One as Quantity-I and the other is Quantity-II. You have to determine relationship between these two quantities and choose the appropriate options as given below :

(1) Quantity-I > II

(2) Quantity-I $<$ II

(3) Quantity-I $\leq$ II

(4) Quantity-I $\geq$ II

(5) Quantity-I = II (or) relationship cannot be established

  1. Quantity-1: The price of a bike is Rs. 28,000. Mr. A gives a discount of $12 \%$ on whole, while B gives a discount of $12 \%$ on the first Rs. 20,000 and $8 \%$ on the rest Rs. 8000 . What is the difference between their selling price on the transaction?

Quantity-2: A trader has $600$ $ kg$ of rice. He sells a part of it at $15 \%$ profit and the remaining quantity at $20 \%$ loss. On the entire transaction, he incurs an overall loss of $6 \%$. What is the quantity of rice he sold at $20 \%$ loss?

Show Answer

Correct Answer: 58. (2)

Solution: 58. (2) Quantity I:

A’s discount $=\frac{28000 \times 12}{100}$

= Rs. 3,360

B’s discount

$=\frac{20000 \times 12}{100}+\frac{8000 \times 8}{100}$

$=2400+640$

$=$ Rs. 3040

Required difference

$=3,360-3040=$ Rs. 320

Quantity II:

Quantity of rice sold at $20 \%$ loss $=r \mathrm{kg}$

Quantity of rice sold at $15 \%$ gain

$=(600-r) \mathrm{kg}$

$(600-r) \times\left(\frac{115}{100}\right)+$ $\left(\frac{r \times 80}{100}\right)=\left(\frac{600 \times 94}{100}\right)$

$\Rightarrow 69000-115 r+80 r=56400$

$\Rightarrow 35 r-69000-56400=12600$

So, $r=\frac{12600}{35}=360 $ $\mathrm{kg}$
