In the following figure, $A B C D$ is a square whose each side is $10 cm$ long. Triangles $AEC$ and $\triangle EFC$ are congruent. Point ’ $B$ ’ is the midpoint of side $EC$. Find the area of $\triangle EFC$ (in sq. $cm$ ).

Solution: (1)
$\triangle AEC \cong \triangle EFC$
$B$ is the mid-point of EC.
$\therefore BE=BC=10 cm$
$\therefore EC=20 cm$
$BE=BF=10 cm$
$\therefore$ Area of $\triangle EFC$ $=\frac{1}{2} \times EC \times BF$
$=\frac{1}{2} \times 20 \times 10=100$ sq. cm.
