Correct Answer: 23.(1)

Solution: (1) I. $2 x^{2}+19 x+44=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 x^{2}+8 x+11 x+44=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 x(x+4)+11(x+4)=0$

$\Rightarrow(x+4)(2 x+11)=0$

$\Rightarrow x=-4$ or, $\frac{-11}{2}$

II. $2 y^{2}+7 y+3=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 y^{2}+y+6 y+3=0$

$\Rightarrow y(2 y+1)+3(2 y+1)=0$

$\Rightarrow(y+3)(2 y+1)=0$

$\Rightarrow y=-3$ or, $-\frac{1}{2}$

Clearly, $x<y$
