Equations And Inequations Ques 177

I. $6 x^{2}-29 x+35=0$

II. $3 y^{2}-11 y+10=0$

Directions : In the following questions, two equations I and II have been given. You have to solve both equations and give answer if

(1) $x>y$

(2) $x \geq y$

(3) $x<y$

(4) $x \leq y$

(5) $x=y$ or the relation cannot be established.

Correct Answer: 177.(1)

Solution: (1) I. $6 x^{2}-29 x+35=0$ $\Rightarrow 6 x^{2}-15 x-14 x+35=0$ $\Rightarrow 3 x(2 x-5)-7(2 x-5)=0$ $\Rightarrow(3 x-7)(2 x-5)=0$

$\Rightarrow x=\frac{7}{3}$ or $\frac{5}{2}$

II. $3 y^{2}-11 y+10=0$

$\Rightarrow 3 y^{2}-6 y-5 y+10=0$

$\Rightarrow 3 y(y-2)-5(y-2)=0$

$\Rightarrow(3 y-5)(y-2)=0$

$\Rightarrow y=\frac{5}{3}$ or 2

Clearly, $x>y$
