Directions : In each of the following questions, two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer
(1) If $x>y$
(2) If $x \geq y$
(3) If $x<y$
(4) If $x \leq y$

Solution: (3) I. $16 x^{2}-14 x+3=0$
$\Rightarrow 16 x^{2}-8 x-6 x+3=0$
$\Rightarrow 8 x(2 x-1)-3(2 x-1)=0$
$\Rightarrow(8 x-3)(2 x-1)=0$
$\Rightarrow x=0.375$ or 0.5
II. $6 y^{2}-10 y+4=0$
$\Rightarrow 3 y^{2}-5 y+2=0$
$\Rightarrow 3 y^{2}-3 y-2 y+2=0$
$\Rightarrow 3 y(y-1)-2(y-1)$
$\Rightarrow(y-1)(3 y-2)=0$
$\Rightarrow y=1$ or 0.67
