Solution: (5) I. $x^{2}-18 x-63=0$
$\Rightarrow x^{2}+3 x-21 x-63=0$
$\Rightarrow x(x+3)-21(x+3)=0$
$\Rightarrow(x+3)(x-21)=0$
$\Rightarrow x=-3$ or 21
II. $y^{2}-8 y-48=0$
$\Rightarrow y^{2}+4 y-12 y-48=0$
$\Rightarrow y(y+4)-12(y+4)=0$
$\Rightarrow(y-12)(y+4)=0$
$\Rightarrow y=12$ or, -4
