Solution: 24. (1) From statements I and II, If the length of the train be $x$ metre, then
Speed of train $=\frac{x}{15}=\frac{x+250}{27}$
$\Rightarrow \frac{x}{5}=\frac{x+250}{9}$
$\Rightarrow 9 x=5 x+1250$
$\Rightarrow 4 x=1250$
$\Rightarrow x=\frac{1250}{4}$
$=312.5 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{sec}$.
