Answer: (1)

Solution: (1)

Initial quantity of milk $=2 x$ litres

Water $=3 x$ litres

In 20 litres of mixture,

Milk $=\frac{2}{5} \times 20=8$ litres

Water $=\frac{3}{5} \times 20=12$ litres

On adding 20 litres of milk,

$ \begin{aligned} & \frac{2 x-8+20}{3 x-12}=\frac{4}{1} \\ & \Rightarrow 2 x+12=12 x-48 \\ & \Rightarrow 12 x-2 x=12+48 \\ & \Rightarrow 10 x=60\\ &\Rightarrow x=6 \\ & \text { Initial quantity of mixture } =5 x=5 \times 6=30 \text { litres } \\ \end{aligned} $
