If 36 persons are engaged on a piece of work, the work can be completed in 40 days. After 32 days, only $\frac{3}{4}$ th of the work was completed. How many more persons are required to complete the work on time?

Solution: (3)
Remaining work $=1-\frac{3}{4}=\frac{1}{4}$;
Remaining time $=8$ days
$\therefore \frac{M_{1} D_{1}}{W_{1}}=\frac{M_{2} D_{2}}{W_{2}}$
$\Rightarrow \frac{36 \times 40}{1}=\frac{M_{2} \times 8}{\frac{1}{4}}$
$\Rightarrow 36 \times 40=M_{2} \times 32$
$\Rightarrow M_{2}=\frac{36 \times 40}{32}=45$
$\therefore$ Additional men $=45-36=9$
