After 2 years the ratio of the age of the son to that of his father will be $4: 11$. The ratio of the present ages of son and mother is $2: 5$. The ratio of the present ages of his mother and father is $5: 6$. What is the present age of the son?

Solution: (1)
Respective ratio of present ages of son, mother and father $=$ $2: 5: 6$
$\therefore \frac{2 x+2}{6 x+2}=\frac{4}{11}$
$\Rightarrow 24 x+8=22 x+22 $
$\Rightarrow 2 x=22$ $-8 \neq 14$
$ \Rightarrow x=7$
Present age of the son $=2 \times 7=14$ years
