At present Kavitha’s age is thrice Sita’s age. Eight years hence the respective ratio between Kavitha’s and Sita’s age will be 2: 1. What is $\frac{2}{3}$ rd of Kavitha’s present age?

Let Sita’s present age be $x$ years.
$\therefore $ Kavitha’s present age $=3 x$ years
After 8 years,
$\frac{3 x+8}{x+8}=\frac{2}{1}$
$\Rightarrow 3 x+8=2 x+16$
$\Rightarrow x=16-8=8$
$\therefore $ Kavitha’s present age $=3 \times 8=24$ years
$\therefore \frac{2}{3}$ rd of Kavitha’s age $=\frac{2 \times 24}{3}=16$ years
