A number ’ $n$ ’ is selected randomly from a set of numbers $-1,2, 5 .$ Another number ’ $m$ ’ selected randomly from a set of numbers $-2,3,7$. What is the probability that product of $m$ and $n(mn)$ is less than 12 ?

(2) $\frac{5}{9}$

(3) $\frac{1}{3}$

(4) $\frac{1}{8}$

(5) $\frac{1}{6}$

Solution: (1)

Total possible outcomes $=3 \times 3=9$

Total favourable outcomes $\Rightarrow(5,3),(5,7),(2,7)=3$ Required probability $=1-\frac{3}{9}=\frac{2}{3}$
