  1. Quantity I : The age of the father is three times of his son. 5 years ago the age of son was $\frac{1}{5}$ times of his father. Find the present age of mother, if at the time of marriage of his mother, she was 5 years younger than his father.

Quantity II : 30

Show Answer

Correct Answer: 95. (2)

Solution: 95. (2) Quantity I :

Son’s age $=x$ years (let)

$\therefore$ Father’s age $=3 x$ years

$x-5=\frac{1}{5}(3 x-5)$

$\Rightarrow 5 x-25=3 x-5$

$\Rightarrow 5 x-3 x=25-5$

$\Rightarrow 2 x=20 \Rightarrow x=10$

$\therefore$ Father’s age $=30$ years

$\therefore$ Mother’s age $=30-5$

$=25$ years

Clearly,

quantity I < quantity II
