Solution: 42. (5) Rate downstream of the boat

$=\frac{18}{3}=6 $ $\mathrm{kmph}$.

Speed of current $=1$ $ \mathrm{kmph}$.

$\therefore$ Speed of boat in still water $=$ $5$ $ \mathrm{kmph}$.

$\therefore$ Rate upstream of boat $=4$ $ \mathrm{kmph}$.

Distance $=100 \mathrm{km}$.

$\therefore$ Time required

$=\frac{100}{4}=25$ hours
