I. $2 x^{2}-9 x+9=0$

II. $2 y^{2}-11 y+14=0$

Directions : In each of these questions, two equations (I) and (II) are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer.

(1) if $x>y$

(2) if $x \geq y$

(3) if $x<y$

(4) if $x \leq y$

(5) if $x=y$ or relationship between $x$ and $y$ cannot be established.

Solution: (5) I. $2 x^{2}-9 x+9=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 x^{2}-6 x-3 x+9=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 x(x-3)-3(x-3)=0$

$\Rightarrow(x-3)(2 x-3)=0$

$\Rightarrow x=3$ or, $\frac{3}{2}$

II. $2 y^{2}-11 y+14=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 y^{2}-4 y-7 y+14=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 y(y-2)-7(y-2)=0$

$\Rightarrow(2 y-7)(y-2)=0$

$\Rightarrow y=\frac{7}{2}$ or, 2
