Equations And Inequations Ques 44

I. $16 x^{2}-14 x+3=0$

II. $6 y^{2}-19 y+15=0$

Directions : In the following questions, two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer. If

(1) $x<y$

(2) $x>y$

(3) $x \leq y$

Correct Answer: 44.(1)

Solution: (1) I. $16 x^{2}-14 x+3=0$

$\Rightarrow 16 x^{2}-8 x-6 x+3=0$

$\Rightarrow 8 x(2 x-1)-3(2 x-1)=0$

$\Rightarrow(8 x-3)(2 x-1)=0$

$\Rightarrow x=\frac{3}{8}$ or $x=\frac{1}{2}$ II. $6 y^{2}-19 y+15=0$

$\Rightarrow 6 y^{2}-10 y-9 y+15=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 y(3 y-5)-3(3 y-5)=0$

$\Rightarrow(2 y-3)(3 y-5)=0$

$\Rightarrow y=\frac{3}{2}$ or, $\frac{5}{3}$

Clearly, $x<y$
