Equations And Inequations Ques 36
I. $3 x^{2}-22 x+7=0$
II. $y^{2}-15 y+56=0$
Directions : In each of these questions, two equations (I) and (II) are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer
(1) if $x>y$
(2) if $x \geq y$
(3) if $x<y$
(4) if $x \leq y$
(5) if $x=y$ or relationship between $x$ and $y$ cannot be established.

Correct Answer: 36.(4)
Solution: (4) I. $3 x^{2}-22 x+7=0$
$\Rightarrow 3 x^{2}-x-21 x+7=0$
$\Rightarrow x(3 x-1)-7(3 x-1)=0$
$\Rightarrow(x-7)(3 x-1)=0$
$\Rightarrow x=7$ or $\frac{1}{3}$
II. $y^{2}-15 y+56=0$
$\Rightarrow y^{2}-8 y-7 y+56=0$
$\Rightarrow y(y-8)-7(y-8)=0$
$\Rightarrow(y-7)(y-8)=0$
$\Rightarrow x=7$ or 8
Clearly, $x \leq y$
