Equations And Inequations Ques 27

I. $5 x+8 y=16$

II. $x-6 y=-12$

Directions : In the following questions, two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer If

(1) $x<y$

(2) $x>y$

(3) $x \leq y$

(4) $x \geq y$

(5) $\quad x=y$ or the relationship cannot be established

Correct Answer: 27.(1)

Solution: (1) Equation $I-5 \times$ Equation II $5 x+8 y=16$

$\frac{{ }^{5 x-30 y=}+\underset{+}{+60}}{38 y=76}$

$\Rightarrow y=\frac{76}{38}=2$

From equation II,

$x-6 \times 2=-12$

$\Rightarrow x=12-12=0$

Clearly, $x<y$
