Equations And Inequations Ques 182

I. $9 x^{2}-27 x+20=0$

II. $6 y^{2}-5 y+1=0$

Directions : In the following questions two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer If

(1) $x>$

(2) $\quad x \geq y$

(3) $x<y$

(4) $x \leq y$

(5) $\quad x=y$ or the relationship cannot be established

Correct Answer: 182.(1)

Solution: (1) I. $9 x^{2}-27 x+20=0$ $\Rightarrow 9 x^{2}-15 x-12 x+20=0$

$\Rightarrow 3 x(3 x-5)-4(3 x-5)=0$

$\Rightarrow(3 x-4)(3 x-5)=0$

$\Rightarrow x=\frac{4}{3}$ or $\frac{5}{3}$

II. $6 y^{2}-5 y+1=0$

$\Rightarrow 6 y^{2}-3 y-2 y+1=0$

$\Rightarrow 3 y(2 y-1)-1(2 y-1)=0$

$\Rightarrow(3 y-1)(2 y-1)=0$

$\Rightarrow y=\frac{1}{3}$ or $\frac{1}{2}$

Clearly, $x>y$
