I. $6 x^{2}+23 x+20=0$

II. $6 y^{2}+31 y+35=0$

Directions : In the following questions, two equations I and II have been given. You have to solve both equations and give answer if

(1) $x>y$

(2) $x \geq y$

(3) $x<y$

(4) $x \leq y$

(5) $x=y$ or the relation cannot be established.

Solution: (5) I. $6 x^{2}+23 x+20=0$

$\Rightarrow 6 x^{2}+15 x+8 x+20=0$

$\Rightarrow 3 x(2 x+5)+4(2 x+5)=0$

$\Rightarrow(2 x+5)(3 x+4)=0$

$\Rightarrow x=-\frac{5}{2}$ or $-\frac{4}{3}$

II. $6 y^{2}+31 y+35=0$

$\Rightarrow 6 y^{2}+10 y+21 y+35=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 y(3 y+5)+7(3 y+5)=0$

$\Rightarrow(2 y+7)(3 y+5)=0$

$\Rightarrow y=-\frac{7}{2}$ or $-\frac{5}{3}$
