Equations And Inequations Ques 133
I. $2 x^{2}+13 x+15=0$
II. $7 y^{2}-4 y-20=0$
Directions : In each of the following question, there are two equations I and II given. You have to solve the equations in each question and choose the correct answer that represents appropriate relationship between the values from the codes given below:
(1) if $x>y$
(2) if $x>y$
(3) if $x<y$
(4) if $x<y$
(5) if $x=y$ or no relation can be established between $x$ and $y$.
Show Answer
Correct Answer: 133.(3)
Solution: (3) I. $2 x^{2}+13 x+15=0$
$\Rightarrow 2 x^{2}+10 x+3 x+15=0$
$\Rightarrow 2x(x+5)+3(x+5)=0$
$\Rightarrow(x+5)(2 x+3)=0$
$\Rightarrow x=-5$ or $x=-\frac{3}{2}$ or -1.5
II. $7 y^{2}-4 y-20=0$
$\Rightarrow 7 y^{2}-14 y+10 y-20=0$
$\Rightarrow 7 y(y-2)+10(y-2)=0$
$\Rightarrow(y-2)(7 y+10)=0$
$\Rightarrow y=2$ or $\frac{-10}{7}$
$=2$ or -1.4142
