Equations And Inequations Ques 132

I. $2 x^{2}-40 x+175.5=0$

II. $y^{2}-18.5 y+75=0$

Directions : In each of the following question, there are two equations I and II given. You have to solve the equations in each question and choose the correct answer that represents appropriate relationship between the values from the codes given below:

(1) if $x>y$

(2) if $x>y$

(3) if $x<y$

(4) if $x<y$

(5) if $x=y$ or no relation can be established between $x$ and $y$.

Show Answer

Correct Answer: 132.(5)

Solution: (5) I. $2 x^{2}-40 x+175.5=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 x^{2}-40 x-175.5=0$

$\Rightarrow 2 x(x-13.5)-13(x-13.5)=$ 0

$\Rightarrow(2 x-13)(x-13.5)=0$

$\Rightarrow x=6.5$ or 13.5

II. $y^{2}-18.5 y+75=0$

$\Rightarrow y^{2}-12.5 y-6 y+75=0$

$\Rightarrow y(y-12.5)-6(y-12.5)=0$

$\Rightarrow(x-12.5)(x-6)=0$

$\Rightarrow x=12.5$ or 6
