Equations And Inequations Ques 120
I. $3 x^{2}-4 x-4=0$
II. $4 y^{2}+23 y+15=0$
Directions : In each of these questions, two equations I and II are given. Solve both the equations and select the appropriate answer from the codes given below.
(1) If $x>y$
(2) If $x \geq y$
(3) If $x<y$
(4) If $x \leq y$
(5) If $x=y$ or no relationship can be established between $x$ and $y$
Show Answer
Correct Answer: 120.(1)
Solution: (1) I. $3 x^{2}-4 x-4=0$
$\Rightarrow 3 x^{2}-6 x+2 x-4=0$
$\Rightarrow 3 x(x-2)+2(x-2)=0$
$\Rightarrow(x-2)(3 x+2)=0$
$\Rightarrow x=2$ or, $-\frac{2}{3}$
$=2$ or, -0.67
II. $4 y^{2}+23 y+15=0$
$\Rightarrow 4 y^{2}+20 y+3 y+15=0$
$\Rightarrow 4 y(y+5)+3(y+5)=0$
$\Rightarrow(y+5)(4 y+3)=0$
$\Rightarrow y=-5$ or, $-\frac{3}{4}$
$=-5$ or, -0.75
Clearly, $x>y$
