Equations And Inequations Ques 10
I. $12 x^{2}+7 x+1=0$
II. $6 y^{2}+5 y+1=0$
Directions : In the following questions two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer
(1) if $x>y$
(2) if $x \geq y$
(3) if $x<y$
(4) if $x \leq y$
(5) if $x=y$ or the relationship between $x$ and $y$ cannot be established.

Correct Answer: 10.(2)
Solution: (2) I. $12 x^{2}+7 x+1=0$
$\Rightarrow 12 x^{2}+4 x+3 x+1=0$
$\Rightarrow 4 x(3 x+1)+1(3 x+1)=0$
$\Rightarrow(3 x+1)(4 x+1)=0$
$\Rightarrow x=-\frac{1}{3}$ or, $-\frac{1}{4}$
II. $6 y^{2}+5 y+1=0$
$\Rightarrow 6 y^{2}+3 y+2 y+1=0$
$\Rightarrow 3 y(2 y+1)+1(2 y+1)=0$
$\Rightarrow(3 y+1)(2 y+1)=0$
$\Rightarrow y=-\frac{1}{3}$ or, $-\frac{1}{2}$
Clearly, $x \geq y$
