A shopkeeper purchased an artefact and marked its price up by $20 \%$. He sold the artefact to a customer after allowing a certain discount and made a profit of $10 \%$. Find the discount per cent given by the shopkeeper.

Let the C.P. of artefact be Rs. 100.
$\therefore$ Its marked price $=$ Rs. 120
S.P. $=$ Rs. 110
$\therefore$ Discount Rs. $(120-110$ ) $=$ Rs. 10
Let the discount be $x \%$.
$\therefore \frac{x \times 120}{100}=10$
$\therefore x=\frac{1000}{120}=\frac{25}{3}=8 \frac{1}{3} \%$
