Data Sufficiency Question 70

Directions : Each of the questions given below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements is sufficient to answer the question. Read both the statements. (IBPS SO (Agriculture) Exam, 29.01.2017)

Give answer (1) if the data in statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Give answer (2) if the data in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Give answer (3) if the data in statement I alone or in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Give answer (4) if the data in both the statements I and II is not sufficient to answer the question.

Give answer (5) if the data in both the statements I and II together is necessary to answer the question.

  1. In how many days, A, B and C together can finish a piece of work?

I. A is twice as efficient as B.

II. A and B together can finish a piece of work in $10 \frac{2}{3}$ days. B and $C$ together can finish the same piece of work in $17 \frac{7}{9}$

days. A and $C$ together can finish the same piece of work in

$11 \frac{3}{7}$ days.

Show Answer

Correct Answer: 70. (2)

Solution: 70. (2) From statement II,

$(A+B)$ ’s 1 day’s work $=\frac{3}{32}$

$(B+C)$ ’s lday’s work $=\frac{9}{160}$

$(\mathrm{C}+\mathrm{A})$ ’s lday’s work $=\frac{7}{80}$

On adding all three,

$2(A+B+C)$ ’s lday’s work

$=\frac{3}{32}+\frac{9}{160}+\frac{7}{80}$

$=\frac{30+18+28}{320}$

$=\frac{76}{320}=\frac{19}{80}$

$\therefore(\mathrm{A}+\mathrm{B}+\mathrm{C})$ ’s 1 day’s work

$=\frac{19}{160}$

$\therefore$ Required time $=\frac{160}{19}$ days.
