  1. If $A>B>C$, what is the difference between $B$ and $C$ ?

I. If the difference between $B$ and $C$ is added to $A$, a new number is formed (X). The average of $A$, $B$ and $C$ exceeds the average of $B$ and $C$ by 9 .

II. The average of $B$ and $C$ is 96 .

Correct Answer: 62. (4)

Solution: 62. (4) $\mathrm{A}>\mathrm{B}>\mathrm{C}$

From both statements,

$\mathrm{A}+\mathrm{B}-\mathrm{C}=x$ and $\mathrm{B}+\mathrm{C}+\mathrm{D}$

$=2 \times 96=192$

$\therefore \frac{\mathrm{A}+\mathrm{B}+\mathrm{C}}{3}-\frac{\mathrm{B}+\mathrm{C}}{2}=9$

$\Rightarrow \frac{A+192}{3}-96=9$

$\Rightarrow \frac{A+192}{3}=96+9=105$

$\Rightarrow \mathrm{A}+192=3 \times 205=615$

$\Rightarrow \mathrm{A}=315-192=123$

The value of $x$ is unknown.
