60 female candidates who qualified in university A’s entrance exam did not join the college. The number of candidates who qualified and joined was what per cent of the total number of candidates who appeared for that exam for the same university?

Solution: (1) Qualified female candidates in university A
$=560 \times \frac{5}{14}=200$
$\therefore$ Female candidates who qualify and get admitted.
$=200-60=140$
$\therefore$ Required per cent
$=\frac{140}{700} \times 100=20 \%$
