Solution: (5) Let the total number of scarves sold by both stores in 2008 be $x$.
According to the question,
$\frac{390+240}{x}=\frac{7}{11}$
$\Rightarrow \frac{630}{x}=\frac{7}{11}$
$\Rightarrow 7 x=630 \times 11$
$\Rightarrow x=\frac{630 \times 11}{7}=990$
