Data Interpretation Ques 22
Directions : The following table shows the details about the percentage distribution of students admitted in four different colleges for five different subjects. The table also consists of respective male and female ratio of all the students in each subject. Consider the following table and answer the questions given below :
Students $\rightarrow$ | Physics | Chemistry | Commerce | History | Maths |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Colleges $\downarrow$ | |||||
$A$ | $20 \%$ | $15 \%$ | $25 \%$ | $20 \%$ | $20 \%$ |
$B$ | $15 \%$ | $15 \%$ | $15 \%$ | $30 \%$ | $25 \%$ |
$C$ | $30 \%$ | $20 \%$ | $10 \%$ | $20 \%$ | $20 \%$ |
$D$ | $25 \%$ | $25 \%$ | $10 \%$ | $30 \%$ | $10 \%$ |
Ratio between male and female |
$2: 3$ | $3: 2$ | $1: 2$ | $2: 1$ | $1: 1$ |
Total students distribution among four colleges A, B, C and D is $2: 3: 3: 2$
If the total students admitted in all the colleges are 2000, then what is the total number of female students in college $B$ ?
(1) 255
(2) 280
(3) 285
(4) 275
(5) 260
Show Answer
Correct Answer: (3)
Solution: (3) Ratio of students in all colleges A, B, C and D
$=2: 3: 3: 2$
Sum of ratio terms
$=2+3+3+2=10$
$\therefore$ Number of students in col-
lege $B=2000 \times \frac{3}{10}=600$
$\therefore$ Number of females in :
Physics $=600 \times 15 \% \times \frac{3}{5}=54$
Chemistry $=600 \times 15 \% \times \frac{2}{5}$
$=36$
Commerce $=600 \times 15 \% \times \frac{2}{3}$
$=60$
History $=600 \times 30 \% \times \frac{1}{3}=60$ Maths $=600 \times 25 \% \times \frac{1}{2}=75$
Total female students
$=54+36+60+60+75=285$
