Answer: (1)

Solution: (1)

In initial mixture within the vessel,

Milk : Water $=80: 18=40: 9$

In 49 liters of mixture,

Milk = 40 litres

Water $=9$ litres

Let $2 x$ litres of milk and $x$ litres of water be added.

According to the question,

$ \begin{alignedat} & \frac{40+2 x}{9+x}=\frac{4}{1} \\ \Rightarrow & 36+4 x=40+2 x \\ \Rightarrow & 4 x-2 x=40-36 \\ \Rightarrow & 2 x=4 \\ \Rightarrow &x=2 \text{ litres} \\ \therefore & \text { Milk added. }=4 \text{ litres} \end{aligned} $
